my first serious try to do a portrait. well, not possible to catch her beauty. anyway i tried my best and this is what came out. 20+ hours; photoshop; reference: a tiny photo...

Nice detail,I like the border thing too.I dont know about how pretty she is,I guess that's a matter of opinion.

Very nice, some strange parts like how the hair is growing out of her forhead in a odd-ish angle, and the fact that she has haird starnds ending at the back of her head--which is weird because it looks like she has smooth long hair all around. I think you can also extend the canvas a bit underneath to give it more room.

The shading on this is incredible!
One sugestion: do not show the whole iris of the eyes. Cover the top of them slightly with the eyelids for better effect.

Oops, until I read the description I thought it was "him" not "her"

I agree with PeachySticks about the forehead and Jie about the iris. Also the border of iris could be more blended into the inside of iris. Hope you understand, what I mean

I think if you practise more, your portraits will look much more naturally soon. Good luck and keep on.

She looks really nice. I like the eyes and the nose best (I'm very fond of your rendering of her nose, actually

). The rimlight looks great, gives a nice sense of depth.
